About Me

I was born in Sydney, Australia. Throughout my childhood I've lived in various places all over Australia. I love nature, especially when living in tropical Weipa where I had the ocean, rainforests and all the tropical creatures and plants around me. My childhood was very free and a lot of my spare time was spent outdoors exploring. This meant that I got to see first hand and grew to appreciate the cleverness and perfection of nature.

I come from a very artistic and creative family background. For as long as I can remember I was always doing something artistic with my beautiful mother and siblings. At the young age of 7, whilst living in Weipa, I won first place in a community art competition and the prize was a boxed set of oil paints. Maybe a hint of what was to become my passion.

I have drawn all of my life and am proud to say I am a self-taught artist. My working career started out very practical and I chose to work in the corporate world. By 1993 I couldn't resist my creative urge any longer. I took up several courses and became a freelance makeup artist which I did for 6 years. On the 18th March, 1995 I was blessed to marry the love of my life and my best friend Mark, who has supported me from the day we have met  through all of my endeavours. It was then in 1999, when I became a mother to my precious daughter Tiffany, that I discovered my skill and love for oil painting. I felt like I had come home.

It wasn't long after I started to paint that I got my very first commission for a painting for a Day Spa business. At this time I also began exhibiting my work in competitions and art shows throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. I have also  participated in many successful joint Exhibitions. My work is represented in private, public and corporate collections throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Melbourne, Sydney, Airlie Beach, Singapore, Japan, United States and the UK.

Painting takes me into another world and I get lost in my work. I love researching a subject before designing the composition of a piece. There is always something clever, funny and unique about the subject and that is what I try to portray in my paintings.

I do find commissions a welcome challenge and would like to say that if you have a special request for a painting please do not hesitate to contact  me via email on artist@carrysmith.com or via mobile on 0407 581 868.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and please feel free to browse my Gallery page for my full folio of work.

Have a great day
